Dedicated Tampa port operations professional to retire after 32 years

TAMPA, Fla.—Tampa Port Authority (TPA) staff and a broad cross section of the Tampa Bay area maritime community paid homage to long-time port operations professional Steve Fidler today, at Tampa’s Columbia Restaurant. About 75 of Fidler’s coworkers, maritime industry associates and representatives of the U.S. Coast Guard attended to honor his retirement after 32 years of intensely dedicated service to the Port of Tampa and to the safe flow of commerce in and around Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Port Authority (TPA) is submitting a proposal for funding from the USDOT Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER II). Public Notice-DEP-Notice of intent to issue permit

The Department of Environmental Protection gives notice of its intent to issue an environmental resource permit (File No. 0297392-001-BI) to the Tampa Port Authority. The project is to construct a new berth by dredging 4.35 acres of submerged bottom, including 3.32 acres of previously-dredged bay bottom and 1.03 acre of existing shallow bay bottom (above -6 feet mean low water (MLW)), to a depth of ‑43 feet MLW, which includes a design depth of -41 feet MLW plus two (2) feet of allowable overdredge; install a 666 linear-foot steel bulkhead; and fill 0.53 acre of submerged lands behind the bulkhead. Approximately 99,500 cubic yards of dredged material will be removed and deposited at the Tampa Port Authority’s Spoil Islands 2D or 3D, and/or used as backfill material behind the new bulkhead. Dredging will be performed by either hydraulic or sealed clamshell dredge.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Port Authority (TPA) is pleased to announce today’s official ground breaking ceremony for the Interstate 4/Selmon Expressway Connector project, which will include an elevated bypass truck lane connecting the Port of Tampa’s main access point directly with the Interstate Highway system. Martin Marietta renews, extends lease at Port of Tampa

TAMPA, Fla.— The Tampa Port Authority is pleased to announce that the port’s board of commissioners today approved renewal of lease terms with Martin Marietta Materials, Inc., which has handled importation of aggregates at the Port of Tampa since 1995. The company expanded its activities and footprint in 1999, to 21 acres.

Tampa Port Authority receives ‘A2’ rating by Moody’s Investors Service

The Port of Tampa Container Terminal has recently been expanded to 40 acres. The terminal is a key area of growth for the Port of Tampa and one that requires sound investment and years of planning.

TAMPA, Fla.—The Tampa Port Authority (TPA) is pleased to announce that Moody’s Investor Service has affirmed an ‘A2’ rating of the port authority’s approximately $145 million revenue bonds. Additionally, Moody’s provided the port authority with a Ratings Outlook of “Stable” for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2009.

Tampa Port Authority approves lease option with oil recycling firm

TAMPA, Fla.— The Tampa Port Authority is pleased to announce that the port’s board of commissioners today approved a lease option agreement with NexLube Tampa, LLC, which plans to construct a recycling facility capable of processing up to 24 million gallons of used oil per year at the Port of Tampa. The facility, to be located on 12 acres at Pendola Point, would be the first of its kind in Florida.

Norwegian Cruise Line to add Tampa as cruise home port in fall of 2011

Norwegian Cruise Line’s 2,240 passenger capacity Norwegian Star will begin its home port season schedule in Tampa in fall 2011.

TAMPA, Fla.— The Tampa Port Authority is pleased to announce that Norwegian Cruise Line will home port its 2,240-passenger vessel Norwegian Star in Tampa for the 2011/2012 season. Beginning in October 2011 through April 2012, Norwegian Star will offer 7-day Western Caribbean cruises from Tampa, with 26 sailings scheduled. This move by Norwegian further expands the cruise line’s Caribbean market and spotlights Tampa’s attractiveness as a growing cruise port with potential for capturing a new and larger market segment.

U.S. Trade Ambassador Ron Kirk shares pro export message

Tampa, Fla.—United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk visited the Port of Tampa Thursday and met with a cross-section of Tampa port industry business leaders to discuss trade issues. Ambassador Kirk, a member of President Obama's Cabinet, is the President's principal trade advisor and spokesperson on trade issues. Attending the meeting at the Tampa Port Authority were the heads of some of the port’s chief exporters and groups such as the Greater Tampa Chamber, the Tampa Bay Partnership, and the Tampa/Hillsborough County Economic Development Corporation. Following the round table discussion, Ambassador Kirk joined Tampa Port Director Richard Wainio on a waterside harbor tour to get a close up look of the diversified activity at Florida’s largest port.

Tampa Port Authority announces completion of latest phase of container terminal expansion

The Port of Tampa Container Terminal has been expanded from 25 to 40 acres, with additional phases planned that will increase it to 160 acres on adjacent land owned by the Tampa Port Authority and ready to be developed.

TAMPA, Fla. The Tampa Port Authority (TPA) is pleased to announce the completion of the latest phase of the ongoing expansion of its container terminal, increasing the paved storage area from 25 to 40 acres. The terminal now includes 2100 feet of berth length, three rail-mounted container gantry cranes and a 100-ton mobile harbor crane, all on a 43-foot deep-water channel. The next phase of expansion is already underway and includes a further extension of the container gantry crane rails and lengthening the berth to 2800 feet, to be completed this summer. Together with terminal operator Ports America, TPA has plans to quadruple the size of the terminal to over 160 acres over the next several years. This planned build-out will be on adjacent land owned by TPA and ready to be developed as market demand grows, providing capacity to handle upwards of 1 million TEUs per year, comfortably accommodating the long-term demands of the West Central Florida market.

TAMPA— The Tampa Port Authority (TPA) is pleased to announce that Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL), which home ports two ships year round at the Port of Tampa, has named Tampa its ‘Embarkation Port of the Year’ in their comment card rating program honoring consistent customer satisfaction and high comment ratings. The award was presented to World Wide Shore Services, Carnival’s service provider, during the CCL Port of the Year party, held March 31, at the Tampa Airport Marriott.
